PRITIKIN HEALTH AND LONGEVITY CENTRE FLORIDA. (JAN 06)

I want to tell you all about our trip to Pritikin, but it is hard to know where to start. This place, calling itself a Longevity Centre, is just that. From the doctor who took charge of me for my stay, Dr. Maurice Laszlo to doctors and other professionals who gave us lectures, all were the picture of health and most past retirement age with an energy that would put people half their age to shame! Every single blood value you have ever heard of and many you may not have were explored and explained in detail by your physician, so that even the smallest health problem you might have was identified and explained.
It turns out it is very simple. East less and exercise more. So where’s the rocket science in that? I hear you ask. Well I think the rocket science or rocket up the rear end for me came in actually seeing day to day how eating no salt, no fat and no sugar along with healthy exercise made dramatic changes in blood values and weight before my eyes.........

LOOKING AFTER YOURSELF - YOU'RE WORTH IT!
(JAN 07)

Some of you may remember back at the beginning of 2006 I wrote about a centre in America called The Pritikin Longevity Centre. I first visited the clinic last year with my husband Rob who is diabetic. The clinic is in Miami Florida and is something of a miracle worker. My husband, who last year was on oral medication, Metformin, twice a day for his diabetes, is now on no medication having been taken off it by his GP here in the UK a few months after we returned from Pritikin. Well we went back this year to consolidate and with January being the traditional time for new beginnings and those New Year Resolutions I thought I would share with you some of what we gleaned there this year.

The secret to prolonging your life and staving off many illnesses is of course a fundamentally good diet and regular exercise and really the Pritikin Centre does no more than emphasise these two very self evident truths.

MEDICAL TOURISM IN POLAND (JUL 07)

I have just returned from a week in Poland. My aim, in visiting Poland was to see what they had to offer in the way of medical tourism. More and more countries are offering affordable, often unbelievably affordable treatment to medical tourists from other countries.

My guides in Poland were Lukasz Liese and Monika Miroszewska of StatMedica. StatMedica are the most comprehensive source of information dedicated exclusively to Private Healthcare in Poland. They can arrange whatever you need and I can assure you that if you received even half of the attention and hospitality as I did, you will never want to leave! My hotel in Warsaw Le Regina which they (and I) highly recommend was easily one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in and I have stayed in a lot! An old castle, rebuilt, as was most of the old town of Warsaw after the war, its marble floors central courtyard and general cool elegant atmosphere would be perfect for a hotel to recover in or just to enjoy a stay in Warsaw. I will go into more detail in future articles.......

POLAND AND FERTILITY (JUL 07)

At the time of year when many of us are celebrating Christmas and the birth of a very special baby boy in Bethlehem, I have been remembering a visit I made to a Fertility clinic in Poland.
In a suburb of Warsaw in an imposing old building that had, in its time, no doubt housed Communist administrative offices, I found the InviMed clinic. But there was nothing imposing or forbidding about the interior of this remarkable clinic.

Dr. Thomas Rokinski met us after a short wait in a corridor whose walls were covered with pictures of babies that told their own story of the success of this clinic. While we waited a proud mother with twins came in to visit the clinic staff her bonnie daughters the picture of health and happiness. The one that she held, she showered constantly with kisses while we admired the chubby one year old. How desperate had this mother been, I wondered, that one year on she was still so full of such fresh and obvious joy........

THE SPA EXPERIENCE IN POLAND (JUL 07)

Happy New Year! Feeling a bit jaded? Yes me too. If you need a pick me up to set you up for 2008, I think I might just know the very place! Last year I had spent a hectic three days in Warsaw visiting clinics offering treatment for medical tourists. Now I was set to do the same in the Southern city of Katowice, but before that was a drive of nearly 500 km. I was pleased that we were going to break our journey at Tomaszow Mazovitch, about an hour from Warsaw

As we swung off the busy highway from Warsaw to Katowice , we began to follow small roads through sleepy villages and acres of lush farm land. Ahead I could see a forest and as the smell of pine began to reach us I felt myself begin to relax. The end of our journey would be The Magellan Spa Hotel (www.hotelmagellan.pl) in the picturesque Sulejow National Park in central Poland..........

POLAND AND DENTAL TREATMENT (JUL07)

I have often wondered how practical it would be to look for treatment overseas as a ‘medical tourist’ so when the opportunity came to visit some dental clinics in Poland, on my recent trip there, I jumped at the chance.

StatMedica were, as they had been, during all my time in Poland with me for the trip

I should say that all the dentists I met spoke excellent English as did all hotel staff and most café and restaurant staff where menus are printed in Polish and English and often one or two more European languages.

My hotel in Warsaw Le Regina was easily one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in and I have stayed in a lot! It was once the American Embassy and has had many distinguished visitors. Its marble floors central courtyard and general cool elegant atmosphere would be perfect for a hotel to recover in or just to enjoy a stay in Warsaw.

In the time I was in Poland I visited several dental clinics. Prices may be extremely reasonable in Poland but there is certainly nothing cut price about the equipment being used, which is the last word in high-tech. The cleanliness of the clinics is superb and MRSA virtually unheard of........

EYE TREATMENT IN POLAND (JUL 07)

I am continuing with my reports from Poland this month where my first visit to an Ophthalmology clinic in Poland was, if you will excuse the pun – eye opening! I had been introduced to the clinic by StatMedica.com (www.statmedica.com) UK representative Alison Hope on 07805715527).

The Okolaser Clinic in Warsaw is a spotless welcoming clinic that, judging by the busy waiting area was extremely popular with its clients. Friendly professional staff ushered us to the administrative area of the clinic and our meeting with Prof. Jerry Szaflik PhD, MD and Dr. Mariusz Rovinski.

This clinic was Poland’s first non-public refractive clinic whose impressive history goes back 10 years. Their determination to maintain their cutting edge reputation has led, over the past few months, to the introduction to five new medical procedures of which they are one of only a few worldwide exponents......
